The IRUA is pleased to announce the recipients of their IRUA Scholarship Awards for 2021. From the essays received this year, the Scholarship Committee, comprised of representatives from nine member companies, selected the following authors and papers:
First Place: Charles Whiteley – University of St. Andrews in Scotland, UK, and who interned with Transatlantic Reinsurance, for his essay entitled: Parametric Insurance and its Global Implications
Second Place: Mackenzie Smith – The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and, who interned with Arch Reinsurance for her essay entitled: A Breath of Relief: Telemedicine in COVID-19 Workers’ Compensation
Tied for Third Place
Tess Rubin– Formerly attended Colorado College in Colorado and who interned with Crum & Forster for her essay entitled: The Rise of Ransomware: How Insurers Are Responding to the Increasing Threat of Ransomware Attacks
Charles Corman – Brandeis University in Massachusetts and who interned with Transatlantic Re for his paper entitled: When Disaster is the Norm: The Impact of Climate Change and Once-In-A-Country Events on Reinsurance
During the upcoming year, our first and second place winners will have their essays published in our Journal of Reinsurance...so keep your eye out for them!
Thanks to the generosity of our members, a total of $12,000 has been disbursed to these awardees to assist in furthering their educational studies.
